History
  • 1984

    spacer Cafferty was founded in January 1984 by Thomas D. Cafferty and Donald E. Perry, with offices in McLean and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Cafferty was formed under the name of Continental Development Corporation. Cafferty delivered its first development at 6441 General Green Way in Alexandria, Virginia, a 51,000 square foot build-to-suit for Baxter International.
    spacer 8100 Gatehouse Road in Falls Church, Virginia was acquired in 1984 and renovated for Computer Sciences Corporation/CSC. Projects from Don Perry's portfolio including the 300,000 square foot GE Medical Systems building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and 15+ buildings in other Midwestern and Southeastern States. Cafferty's investment capital was secured from a group of Baltimore Investors and former CBRE colleagues, who invested in multiple Cafferty properties.

    spacer 20+ projects were developed by Cafferty in Washington, D.C., Tidewater and other markets, including retail, industrial and office developments. Major build-to-suit developments include 5301 Shawnee Road in Alexandria, Virginia constructed in 1987 for Boeing with Data Center and SCIF upgrades. FedEx and other build-to-suit developments were also completed in the Tidewater, Virginia market.

    spacer 4250 Pleasant Valley Road in Chantilly, Virginia was delivered as a 95,000 square foot build-to-suit development for Virginia Packaging & Supply Company.

    spacer 6432 General Green Way in Alexandria, Virginia was delivered as a build-to-suit Data Center/office development for the National Bank of Washington/ NBW. Three build-to-suit office buildings were also completed for Allstate Insurance Company in Columbia, Baltimore and Clarksburg, Maryland.

    spacer Cafferty re-Tenanted and renovated 6432 General Green Way for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, who establishes the EDGAR Data Center and the SEC's Operations Center in the 147,242 square foot, Data Center/office building. The SEC Lease has been extended twice to 2014 representing 23 years of SEC operations served by our portfolio in three Cafferty buildings.

    spacer Asset Management relationship established with General American Life Insurance Company of St. Louis, Missouri, now Metropolitan Life Insurance Company/MetLife on eight properties in four states representing $200MM of asset values, repositioned, renovated, leased, managed and sold for General American thru 1998.

    spacer ACS/Lockheed Martin selects Cafferty for a second build-to-suit 37,000 square foot office building at 5270 Shawnee Road in Alexandria, Virginia. Fairfax County awarded its Conversation and Environmental Awareness Award for the development of 5270 Shawnee Road in concert with the adjoining parkland owned by Fairfax County.

    spacer Office Depot selects 6304 Woodside Court in Columbia, Maryland for its Mid- Atlantic Regional Offices. The Office Depot Lease was extended thru 2015 and the building was renovated in 2010 by Cafferty Construction Services.

    spacer Cafferty sold Stoneybrook Shopping Center in Newport News, Virginia and consolidated the Portfolio focus on the Washington, D.C. markets.

    spacer The Investor Partners’ interests were acquired, consolidating 100% of the Portfolio ownership with Thomas D. Cafferty controlled ownership entities. Aggregate Investor/Partner returns exceeded 1,100% from Cafferty’s inception in 1984 in 2007.

    spacer Cafferty renovated 6441 General Green Way for GSA-National Technical Information Services/NTIS. 6441 General Green Way houses NTIS production and distribution operations. Cafferty secured the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality/VDEQ’s approval of the completion the remediation of chlorinated solvents at 5321 Shawnee Road. The former ARC/SEQUA site represented the largest chlorinated solvent remediation in the history of Fairfax County.

    spacer Cafferty renovated 5301 Shawnee Road for GSA-NTIS's Headquarters and 2,500 square foot, Tier II Data Center. NTIS is a part of the Department of Commerce. Cafferty Construction Services delivered 42,000 square feet of office and Data Center space renovations in 68 days for GSA/NTIS.
